Frequently Asked Questions
How will I be recognized once certified?
Each certification comes with a digital badge and completion certificate. Plus, you will be registered on the Trusted Watch Builders website with your badge number, name, current status and any contact information you provide. Furthermore, the TrustedWatchBuilders.com website will be featured (full page) in the Watch Builder Magazine future editions.
How much is the certification?
The certification is a one-time-fee of $349, with an annual renewal of $20 per year thereafter. The renewal fee allows you to remain in good standing and subjects you to free marketing.
In short, a portion of your renewal goes towards marketing the TWBC website, which can help bring you traffic.
What tools do I need?
Since this is a certification, we assume you already have the correct tools to build a watch. However, we do offer a full list of the minimal tools to help you get certified. The biggest ones you'll need (at least to understand an implement), are a timegrapher and pressure tester.
How hard is the certification test?
Since this certification is based around builders and modders (not watch makers), it's a very easy test to get through as it doesn't cover full restoration of movements as we will be dealing with the Seiko NH series mostly. Although, you WILL learn the basics of the movement and light modification (Day/Date Wheel removal, small repairs, etc.), meaning just about anyone could take the test and pass. We will also have you send in pictures of your build proving you understand the basics of the watch building and client care processes.
I'm brand new to watch building. Will this help me get started in the business as well?
Not only is the training geared towards becoming a recognized (Certified) watch builder, but the training itself is geared towards new and seasoned builders both.
All training assets have been created in a very down-to-earth manor, which supports the least amount of tools, the best price tools (for example, there's a crystal press video using a $10 crystal press.) and the easiest setups to get you started.

The Four Foundations
The following for catagories are set as the foundation for the certification training on the forum. Each piece is made as its own complete section and can be viewed in any order.
General Watch Building
Everything from setting up a build, making sure you have the right parts, to putting together a solid Client timepiece. Light modification, but no advanced movement assembly is covered, but WILL be shared in the general forum.
Pressure Testing
This section coveres how to make sure your timepieces are water tight. Gaskets, crystals, casebacks, crowns are all covered.
Timegraphing
Learn how to regulate your Seiko NH series automatic movement, demagnatize, and deal with certain issues that may arise from Client wear and tear.
Customer Strategies
This section deals with everything from marketing for new Clients, to servicing repair or warranty work, to understanding how to close and service a completed sale.
